Why we don't do subscriptions
A short essay on why Motionry stays a one-time purchase — and what that means for updates, ownership and trust.
Every year a well-meaning friend asks us why Motionry isn't a subscription. The math, they say, is much better on the SaaS side.
The math is better, but the product isn't. A subscription incentivises the studio to keep customers logged-in, not to make the best possible plugin. We wanted incentives that pointed the other way.
One-time purchase means we ship updates because we want to, not because a renewal is coming up. It means an editor who bought Motion Essentials in 2024 still owns it in 2030. It means our support inbox is full of feature requests, not billing questions.
It also means we work harder on what's inside the pack. If you're only going to buy this once, it had better be worth $150.
